The Spice Market

We went with another couple on a long journey to the spice market. We began with a two mile trek to the bus stop. We boarded the hot, crowded bus and handed the conductor $2.5 Eastern Caribbean each (93 cents USD). After a 40 minute scenic, windy, sweltering ride, we disembarked near the market. Our wonderful day brought many surprises - a fish market, the chocolate museum, an art gallery, and many purchases.

We breezed through the fish market and into the spice market - no Mahi for our friend.  My first purchase was a bag of mangos.  Later, I added cucumbers, local honey, jam, spices, sarongs, jewelry. The chocolate museum and store was delightful for an ice cream lunch! Yum! Ilearned much about my favorite food - chocolate. Not I know that Grenadian chocolate is healthy! I'll have to consume much more!

We met the artist at the batik gallery, where my friend purchased a beautiful pink dress. I bought some batik fabric. There were lots of beautiful fabrics, made into clothes, scarves, art, and the like.

The guys "picked up" a straggler at the museum, who followed them for hours. He started to get creepy, and ended up asking for money for insulin. We lost him soon after, then headed home.

The bus ride was just as colorful as the ride over - many stops, with people getting on and off - hot, crowded and sweaty for the long ride. Finally, we made it to our stop. With quick trips to the grocery store and a convenience market, we took a detour for some drinks. By the time we left to walk home, it was dark.

Our friends invited us for dinner. She made delicious Scallops Alfredo, served pate, salami and a fantastic red wine. We brought a salad and crackers. We talked and danced all night.

We finally collapsed at midnight. What a fantastic day and evening!

Stay spicey,

Miriam
