It's finally time to move to Grenada, to prepare to launch our sweet Liahona.
Our adventures began with our ride to the airport, courtesy of our steadfast friend, Robin. Thank you once again, Robin!❤️
We and our eight bags were picked up promptly at 7:00 pm and whisked away to the airport for our “red-eye” flight to Miami. Luckily, we had secured first-class tickets through a special offer. This included two free 70 pound checked bags per person. Otherwise, the bag fees would have cost more than the upgrade.
One might think that first class would be a place to get some shuteye during a night flight, but alas, we were mistaken. Tim and I got perhaps an hours’ worth of sleep throughout the five-and-a-half-hour flight. So, two weary travelers arrived at Miami International Airport at approximately 7:00 am, 4:00 am west-coast time. We force fed ourselves breakfast, as we knew that it would help us adjust to the three-hour time change. Soon, we boarded our flight to the Maurice Bishop International Airport. Three and a half hours later, we arrived in Grenada!
The flight was uneventful; we dozed on and off the whole way there. We deplaned, collected our massive amount of luggage and cleared immigration. There were many taxis awaiting our arrival, so we hailed one and proceeded to our new home. Our mobile host introduced to the Flamboyant tree, one of many on the island. Our half-hour ride took us through some beautiful countryside, as well as through business and deprived areas. We could not wait to see our boat!
The taxi dropped us off right in front of the accommodations where we would spend the next 10 days while working on our dry-docked sailboat. Our new next-door neighbor, Ron, helped us upstairs with over 300 pounds of luggage, to our one room apartment. Thank you, Ron! Then, a quick walk over to meet Liahona; then, back to the apartment for some much-needed sleep.
Please note: Some details may have been altered or omitted as we were both suffering a sleepless stupor.
