Off to Dominica (not Dominican Republic)

Time to move on. Time to sail to Dominica, the second poorest island in the Caribbean, after Haiti. This was my hardest sail yet. I got seasick, even with Bonine.

We finally made our way to Roseau. We took a mooring ball, with the help of Mr. Roots, as recommended by a friend. We left after one night due to unpleasant surroundings and the opportunity for a good sail up to Portsmouth. Although we missed the hot springs swimming, we really had to go. "Gotta sail when there's a good weather window".

Portsmouth Association of Yacht Security (PAYS) was founded in 2005, when thirteen certified members joined to create this non-profit group. They rent out and assist with moorings, organize cruiser BBQs, lead tours, help with customs, teach scuba, etc. We came to know and admire all of these men. They helped to make our stay safe and enjoyable.

While there, we went to a cruisers BBQ. There, we met new friends Diana and Jim and their little dog, Conway, who we had as our "buddy boat" for several sails after.

More on that later,

Miriam
