Friends

One great advantage of the cruising lifestyle is the opportunity to make friends easily and quickly. We met Janet and Erich at the boatyard restaurant, on one of our first evenings in Grenada. They were sitting at a table across from us. I struck up a conversation with them. At some point, Janet and I got up from our tables so she could show me her boat. When we got around the corner, I immediately started crying. I was petrified of what I had gotten myself into. She took me by the hand and told me that when she started sailing with her husband, she counted the days until she could go home. That lasted almost 6 months until she fell in love with sailing, which she was sure would happen for me as well. This is their third boat. They really do love sailing and the freedom that it brings.

We have spent much time with Janet and Erich, our new friends from South Africa. We have visited each other's boats, met for meals, and just talked for hours. We can talk for hours. They are very special people. I just love them.

It seems that many women that I have spoken with so far on this journey have started this adventure because it is their husband’s dream. This has been Tim’s dream. I decided to sail in order to travel and bring our home with us. Also, for the fun and adventure, and doing something completely different. Because Covid has us locked up, and I wanted to get out and challenge myself. I wanted to step out of my comfort zone. It's a busy and rewarding lifestyle. Hopefully soon, I will love it as most others do. It will just take some time to get used to living in a small space and rocking constantly. So, here we are. In Grenada. On a boat. Let the adventures begin!
