We sailed with our friends, Eva and Steve, to Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.
When we arrived at the large harbor, there were 3 cruise ships, as well as numerous mega-yachts docked and more in the harbor. We squeezed our sweet little sailboat in between them, dropped anchor and went into town. The first stop was the post office, to put a trace on our much-needed water filter. It turned out that we went to the wrong post office, so we took a hike to another post office about a mile away. We were told that the package had not come back to the post office, so it was lost. Later, Amazon said that they needed a police report in order to refund our money. So, off to the police station we went. Tim made his report and we waited about a week for it to be finalized. Back to the police station to pick up said report. Uh oh. Too late on that day. That office was already closed. So, again, to the post office the next day. Finally, $10 later, we had the report in hand. Remember, each trip involves taking the dinghy to the public dinghy dock, securing it with the chain, and walking. Whew. That was quite a large roll of red tape!
St. Thomas offers an open-air bus, called a "Safari bus" that travels from the mid-east to the mid-west of the island. Used mostly by locals, it costs only $2 in each direction. We utilized this mode of transportation whenever possible.
We've did a lot of sailing back and forth to/from Charlotte-Amalie and Brewer's Bay with Steve and Eva. CA for shopping and business and BB for snorkeling and relaxing. We are having a wonderful time in St. Thomas.
