This was a most interesting Temple in Charlotte-Amalie. There has been Jewish people living in St. Thomas since at least the 17th Century. I am willing to believe that some came with Christopher Columbus! This organized community was founded in 1796. It is the second longest continually running synagogue in the Western Hemisphere, after Curacao. Notice the sand floors, to emulate the sand from Israel.
